Join FOG

Joining FOG is very easy.

If you’re new to rocketry simply turn up to one of our meetings. We’ll show you how model rockets work, help you to select a suitable starter rocket, and guide you through your first few launches. Every new starter is insured to launch under supervision at their first two meetings. After those two free meetings members will have to join BMFA (for insurance) and FOG.

All insurance is handled by BMFA and all flyers at FOG meetings must be members of BMFA. Please go to https://bmfa.org/join-us and follow the instructions there to join. They offer a range of individual, family and group memberships. When joining BMFA please enter Fins Over Gwent (FOG) as one of your clubs so that we can verify your status without you having to bring along a printed card. If you need any help, please contact a committee member.
Once you have obtained BMFA membership, if you wish to fly at FOG we offer an annual membership running January to December. For 2026, the costs will be as follows:
Senior Membership – £12
Junior Membership – £3 (Under 18 years of age and a guardian must already hold a Senior FOG membership)
Academic/Group membership – £20 (please contact a club committee member to discuss availability & restrictions on this class of membership)
However, if you take out a membership before 28th February, we are offering £2 off a membership so:
Senior membership – £10 & add on Junior memberships £1
Please make payment via PayPal  using the link HERE making sure you list the names & memberships required along with a contact email address for us to send the membership PDF to. If you need to make payment another way, or have any membership questions please contact a committee member directly and we will do all we can to help.
Looking forward to meeting you over 2026.

Organisation

The structure of the club is very simple because we prefer flying rockets to holding committee meetings.
FOG has a committee and is run according to its constitution. The current committee members are:

  • Chairman : Jean-Marc Giacalone
  • Secretary : Jean-Marc Giacalone
  • Treasurer/Membership: Dave Bishop
  • Welfare:  Tony Bryant
  • Senior RSO: Phil Charlesworth

Constitution

FOG has a constitution which can be downloaded HERE, and this governs how the club is run. We have a policy for the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults which can be downloaded HERE. FOG holds its AGM in the spring.
